I am really hoping that the Guys do their thing tonight, because I wasn’t blown away by the Girls last night.  Hmm…Simon thought it would be the Girls to prevail, but I’m thinking that American Idol may be a Man’s World Tonight!  I’m a fan of Michael Lynche, Casey James and Andrew Garcia.  Also Lew Dewzye.  I gues I like the guys who play guitars!  I hope the others win me over.

Todrick Hall: He sang  ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ By Kelly Clarkson.  Okay, Todrick totally switched up Kelly’s song and I’m not sure how I feel about it.  But since this is a singing competition, I don’t know if it really showed off his vocals.  But he has some original flavor to him and he can work a crowd.  Ellen was grinning like she won some money.  She liked it, but the chorus was lacking.  The singing wasn’t the greatest, but she loved that he took a chance.  Randy thought that he definitely changed the song, but he doesn’t think that is a good thing necessarily.  You should still be able to recognize the song.  He doesn’t have to do all that to show off his vocals and he didn’t succeed in showing off.  Kara agreed.  She felt that he doesn’t need to change it that much.  He took a risk and she likes that he is a performer.  Simon thought he came over as a dancer trying to sing, not a singer trying to dance.  He murdered the song and his performance verged on stupid.  (ouch)  866.436.5701

Aaron Kelly: He sang ‘Here Comes Goodbye’ by Rascall Flatts.  Hmm…..I think this little boy can sing.  I don’t know if this was the right song, but he was pretty good.  Simon thoughtthat he is a good likeable singer, but he needs to take control of the song and get some confidence.  He believes that he will be here next week.  Kara thinks he is such a great contestant, because he doesn’t know what he has yet and he will just get better and better.  Randy agreed.  He wants him to be confident and he loves that he has such a big voice at such a young age.  Ellen loves it and she thought that he did a very good job.  866.436.5702

Jermaine Sellers:  He sang ‘Get Here’ by Oleta Adams.  Ooh…not good.  Don’t get me wrong, obviously this guy can sing, but his interpretation of the song didn’t do anything for me.  I don’t think it was the right song or arrangement for him.  I should really be a creative consultant.  Ellen loves the song, but she felt that he was performing rather than getting into the song’s lyrics and making a connection.  She likes him, but he was trying too hard.  Randy loved the song, but he sees him more like Maxwell or Neo and he thought that he was doing way too much.  Kara thinks that he was really trying to show all that he can do, but he failed to be meaningful with his efforts.  Simon thinks that this song is a bar request song and at certain points it sounded like he was screaming.  He has blown it.  (ouch…Jermaine can put his head in the oven now Simon)   866.436.5703

Tim Urban: He sang ‘Apologize’ by One Republic.  As everyone knows by now, Tim is here by the hair on his chinny chin chin after Chris Golightly was disqualified for a technicality, so Tim is already gotten his second chance.  Hmmm….I wasn’t feeling his version of ‘Apologize’.   Way too much wailing for me.  Simon thinks that they made the right decision the first time around by sending him home.  He doesn’t think his voice is good enough.  Simon is particularly on one tonight, so he pressed on to let Tim know that his vocals were weak and he might make it through, because he looks good and people feel sorry for him  (OUCH).  Kara agreed that the music swallowed him up.  He was more authentic before when he was acoustic and more natural then.  She hopes that he goes further on in the competition.  Randy thought it was all wrong for him and he thinks he is better than that.  (Jeez, how old is this kid?  I’m surprise that he didn’t break down and start crying).  Ellen agreed with the other Judges and said that if the sound was down and people could just look at him and they would vote for him because he is adorable.  (I don’t know if that helps him feel better) 866.436.5704

Joe Munoz: He sang ‘You and I’ by Jason Mraz.  Hmm….I think that Joe did a pretty good job on this one, BUT it wasn’t memorable.  It’s a singing competition and I don’t know if it was the best choice for Joe.  Ellen enjoyed how comfortable he was and she thought he sounded good.  Randy didn’t think this was a great song choice, but he thought he did a good job.  Kara liked his song choice.  He was up front and centered.  He has been the best tonight (but is that really saying much?)  Simon kinda agrees.  He needs to get out the bubble.  Based on his performance, he doesn’t think he can be a star and sell records.  It was forgettable.  866.436.5705

Tyler Grady: He sang ‘American Woman’ by Guess Who and a little Lenny Kravitz.   Ooh….Didn’t like this one either.  This just didn’t work. I hate when the contestants try to be sexy.  and when they are delusional about what decade it is.  Never works!  Simon feels people will remember that performance.  For the wrong reason.  He doesn’t feel natural and he likens him to a guy who went to ‘Pretend to be a Rock Star school’.   Simon advised him to change it up.  Kara agrees he is obsessed to the 70’s.  He can be a star, but he has to do something new.  They are seeing the same thing week after week.  Randy concurred that he went with style over substance.  Ellen thinks that he needs to work on the singing and not just posing like a Rock Star.  Look at his picture, I don’t know if Tyler is going to accept the email that they are trying to send his way.  866.436.5706

Lee Dewyze: He sang ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol.  I liked Lee’s interpretation of the song.  Enjoyed the vocals, his passion, stage presence and his guitar playing.   A little pitchy, but the best of the night hands down (he hasn’t had too much competition yet tonight).   Ellen thought that it was a good song choice.  He screamed a little, but she loved it.  She thinks he should stay.  Randy didn’t like the song for him.  It’s a little too range-y.  He is more of a Rocker and this was too Pop.  He could see him singing some Kings of Leon.  Kara agreed.  This song was too soft for him and he wasn’t able to show his voice.  Simon thought that this was the best performance of the evening.  Naturally good singer.  Great choice for him.  Authentically good voice and he should do well in the competition.  I love it when Simon likes someone that Randy and Kara didn’t, because it kind of discredits them.  Everyone wants to hear what Simon has to say.  866.436.5707

John Park:  He sang ‘God Bless The Child’.  This was just okay for me.  He has a great deal of potential, but I think we have heard this song, so many times that if you sing it, you better bring it…. and he didn’t.  Simon pointed out that since he doesn’t have an incredible voice, he really shouldn’t have taken on such a big song.  His performance was pointless, no emotion and he left him flat.  Kara agreed.  He has a big voice, but there was no connection to the song.  She can’t figure him out.  Randy thought that he had some good moments in the song, but overall a bad song choice.  Ellen doesn’t know why he chose this song, because young girls don’t know it and won’t lead them to vote.  But she actually liked his performance and she likes him.  Ellen wants him to stay around.  866.436.5708

Michael Lynche: He sang ‘This Love’ by Maroon five.  Hmm… The very strange night continues with the bad song choices and mediocre vocals.  I really like Big Mike, but I didn’t appreciate his voice on this song.  This song actually made his voice song weak and hollow.  Not good.   Ellen loves his infectious personality.  She thought it was a great song choice (really), a little pitchy, but she enjoyed watching him.  Randy agrees with her, but he is still hurting from when he picked him up last week (Michael is a big piece of chicken, so I can see why Randy has a broken rib or two).  Kara thought that he livened things up.  There were some good things about it, but not great.  Simon thought that he was like a support act before the real act.  He delivered so little  although he has so much to give.  Simon promised him that he will regret it when he plays it back later.       866.436.5709

Alex Lambert: He sang ‘Wonderful World’ by James Morrison.  Again, this was just not the right song for him and his voice just didn’t sound good.  I’m hoping that these performances are just a result of the guys’ nerves in front of a live audience, because no one has done too well tonight.  Alex seemed out of breath and overwhelmed.   Simon thought it was the most uncomfortable performance of the evening.  He needs to get his nerves together, if he is going to make it here.  He has to get it back together, but the good news is he likes him and he thinks he can sing.  Kara felt that he needs a hug.  She thinks that this was a good song for him and he has great potential.  He nneds to believe in himself.  Randy thinks he has to pull it together.  He really likes him.  Ellen also likes him and his great voice.  She even likes that he is holding on to his mullet.  He just has to find his confidence.  (Great chorus to describe how he must be feeling:  And I know that it’s a wonderful world, But I can’t feel it right now, well I thought that I was doing well, But I just want to cry now).
866.436.5710.

Casey James: He sang ‘Heaven’ by Bryan Adams.   Casey decided to be sensitive and play his guitar while sitting on a stool as he crooned his song.  I liked it.  Sitting down probably calmed his nerves too.  I can see why Kara had him taking his clothes off, he is a cutie pie.  ( I also see why Kara has an HR meeting on Friday-smile)  I like him.  Kara thought he got a little pitchy at some spots.  Ellen interrupted to say that she could say that  she could feel Kara undressing him.  Randy liked his swagger.  Kara thinks that he is Ear Candy as well as Eye Candy.  Simon liked that he picked the right song, he was likeable and the Cougars love him (interject Kara “Who you calling a Cougar’).  866.436.5711

Andrew Garcia: He sang ‘Sugar, We’re going down’ by Fallout Boy. I have liked Andrew since week 1.  I like him tonight.  Good vocals and he truly seems like he is having a good time as well.  Good performance.  Simon  wasn’t feeling it though, he was disappointed.  He thought it was indulgent, too serious and unoriginal.  Simon expected more.  He thought this was unfortunate that it was unforgettable.  Kara thought he took a risk and she likes him.  This just didn’t work as well as his interpretation of Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’.  Randy agrees, but he is a fan of Andrew’s and he knows that he can recover.  Ellen also agrees that he could have done more.  She pointed out that he really came out when he looked at his girlfriend while he was performing, he needs to do more of that.  866.436.5712

Wow….who are the two weakest links…..This is a hard one!  I will have to pick: Tim Urban and Tyler Grady
